Leadership Exercise Pitch
My pitch for a leadership exercise is to take a diction vocal exercise, develop it into a round, and incorporate a rhythmic aspect to it.
Objective:
The objective is to demonstrate that you can take a simple line of music and use it to teach rhythm, singing in parts using a round format. It is also to help people actively listen and hear how their individual roles combine with others. Lastly, because the lyrics are silly, it is a fun team building exercise.
Method:
My teaching method will start by inviting the class to form a large circle. I will teach the song - repeating line by line in a listen and repeat format. The Lyrics of the exercise are “Why shouldn’t my goose sing as well as thy goose when I paid for my goose twice as much as thyne.” After the class is comfortable with the song, I will split them into four groups to sing as a round. Once they achieve that, I will ask everybody to come in one at a time. As soon as the person to their right sings “Why shouldn’t,” the next person will start. From here, I will start a tap or clap going in the opposite direction of the round, so that people must stay on rhythm and be aware of what is going on around them.
